We hear about peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter… but never really walnut butter. Walnut butter is so simple to make and brings a beautiful depth to smoothies and baking. It has a bitter hit that goes so beautifully in this smoothie with maple syrup and chocolate Clean Lean Protein.

Walnuts are a great plant source of omega 3 fatty acids. They are rich in antioxidants and may help reduce inflammation. Walnuts may help promote a healthy gut and reduce the risk of some cancers. They have also been shown to help control appetite, manage type 2 diabetes, lower blood pressure, and support brain function. Walnuts are so good for us, and this smoothie is a delicious way to have some! Let us know what you think!

Blend all the ingredients together. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Walnut Butter:

2 cups Walnuts

½ tsp Salt

Put the walnuts on a baking tray and bake at 150 C for 12 -15mins. Be careful not to burn the walnuts, if you have a ‘hot’ oven, turn it down to 140 C and be sure to keep an eye on them. Once they are nicely toasted and fragrant, remove them from the oven to cool. Place them in a food processor with the salt and process until the walnuts turn into a runny and smooth butter.
